Stepping Up

Ashram
To willingly fight for a cause takes a certain breed.
We are humbled and thankful to those who sacrificed their lives and suffered for us—we who support and maintain a way of life, which is far from perfect, but better and more sane than most ideologies.
To create within an environment that frowns upon censorship is a blessing.
So, artist, now comes the question of the hour: Are you copying nature, or are you adding to reality? If you’ve found your dharma, the answer will be joyfully clear.
When we are lucid, we create our ashram, a place of honor and awareness devoid of mindless ego—which is, after all, “the” goal.
In this spirit, I defer to a cliche recently observed on a bumper sticker: Make art, not war.
You ask the tough questions, which is the poet’s job. Many thanks for your service.
