Grant Me Strength
Getting a grant or fellowship to pursue your art can be glorious, and it can add academic prestige to your curriculum vita.
If you apply to the right granting institution for your work, fill out the forms correctly, and if your timing is right, you might be chosen.
Not applying guarantees not being selected.
The majority of grant and fellowship giving organization have websites that allow you view previous winners and the quality level of their work, which is an eye opener—you will have to come to your own conclusions.
Getting rejected by a review committee here barely qualifies as a letdown because the aesthetic of the jury, or their consultants, is unknown to you, making such awards arbitrary in most respects.
More often than not such selection committees are swayed over by the pedigree of endorsements that the artist can muster rather that the quality of the art itself.»
