Adele Remembered

Adele in 2002
Adele in 2002

Today is my late mother’s birthday. Fitting that it is on Bastille Day, a symbol of bringing down tyranny.

Adele had many special qualities. Her intuition was strong and unerring. Although she had little formal education, she more than made up for it with her smarts, which is a function of soul, not ego.

As she had compassion for the whole world, Adele loved her three children in equal doses. No favorites in her world view.

Adele was my number one editor and advisor while I was writing An Artist Empowered. Her eye for clarity was reliable and superb.

Sometimes she would say to me: “Don’t you want to say this another way?”

I would say: “I don’t know. Let me think about it.”

Each time after a day went by, I would tell her: “Mom, you’re right. I’ve already changed it.”

In response, she would kiss me on the head—a feeling I pray to have with me always.
