Acceptance or Approval
The more you know about how art-savvy, or not, the looker is the better you can handle both acceptance and rejection.
In their book, Art & Fear, David Bayles and Ted Orland write: “The difference between acceptance and approval is subtle, but distinct. Acceptance means having your work counted as the real thing; approval means having people like it.”
In one case, an artist might do well with public approval, but critical acclaim and acceptance elude him; or the reverse might be the case. But critical acceptance is no guarantee of success with the public either.
