Say Cheese!

If Picasso took a photograph, is that art?

It’s Picasso taking a photograph.

Of course, there is a perceived value that it is Picasso who took the picture. It’s similar to someone not wanting to cash a check that Picasso made out for some service or product because she values his signature more than the money on the check—something, I would presume, served Picasso well, even if it threw the balance off in his accounts payable ledger.

If you don’t know what is art, then who will?

Teacher’s Pet

Can art be taught?

Whether you hear yes or no to this age-old question, you must look at the art of the one providing the answer.

Do not confuse art with technique.

Art cannot be taught. Think about it. No one can show you how to be original.

Someone can, however, unleash the awesome power of the creator that lies within.

Grand Ole Opry

Art from the soul is art born without motive; it is pure deliverance from the mind of God.

Conceptual art is the result of thought; the artist is saying, here is what I think art is.

Consciously placing ideas in art—the art I am talking about—is like that $1.98 price tag dangling off a straw hat, the trademark chapeau worn by the late comedian Minnie Pearl.

No Isms, Please

Create some time and set yourself a worthy task.

Investigate the evolution of Western art—from classical to academic, to realism, through the Blue Rider School, impressionism, post impressionism, cubism, ashcan school, modern art, pop art, abstract expressionism, and up to postmodern art—and you will not feel alone.

You will discover that art is not an ism nor is it an institution. Art is a force of nature.

Real Magic

There is magic in truth.

You can apply truth from anywhere to where you are right now. I have been in opulent mansions that were devoid of spirit; I have been in one room flats that were rich with generosity and gratitude.

Remember, the true master teaches you nothing, nothing but to see the truth on your own. He awakens and unleashes what you already know to be absolute. Otherwise, how would you recognize truth when you felt it?
